Sean O'Loughlin

Player Bio

19-year career as a player with his hometown Club, Sean is set to enter his fourth season as Assistant Coach for the first team. Sean played 459 games and won 10 major honours with Wigan.

The one-Club man and Captain hung up his boots at the end of his 19th season as a Rugby League professional in 2020.

Revered by colleagues and opposition players with many pointing to him as one of the modern greats, Sean has been one of the most respected, consistent and inspirational players of the Super League era and captain of both Club and Country.

He led the Club to its first major titles in eight years, winning the League Leaders’ Shield and the 2010 Super League Grand Final, before going on to win another eight major honours, including the 2013 double and the historic World Club Challenge title in 2017. Sean was named in the Super League Dream Team a record seven times.

In his first season on the coaching staff Sean, along with Lee Briers helped Matt Peet to coach the team to a Challenge Cup victory over Huddersfield. In 2023, the new coaching set up of Matt, Sean and Tommy Leuluai saw the team win the League Leaders Shield and a Grand Final win over Catalans.

In 2024, O’Loughlin was assistant Coach as Wigan secured a World Club Challenge victory over Penrith Panthers at the DW Stadium and in March of that year it was announced that he had signed a seven-year deal to see him remain with the Club until at least the end of the 2030 season.

Sean O’Loughlin is sponsored by Chris & Nicola Martindale.
