Matt Peet spoke to the press following Wigan Warriors’ Betfred Super League defeat to Hull KR at Sewell Group Craven Park.

Despite second half tries from Abbas Miski and Liam Farrell, the Warriors fell to a second defeat of the season in Hull.

Reflecting on the loss, Peet said: “Hull KR started with great intent and great energy and they were the better team across the 80 minutes. We were a little bit soft defensively at the start of the game and when called upon to defend our goal line we weren’t where we needed to be. I was relatively pleased with the response in the second half, but on the whole some poor defence translated into our attack.”

On taking lessons from the defeat, Peet said: “Sometimes the lessons are more obvious than others and tonight it was pretty clear where we were off. A few individuals – staff included – put their hands up in the dressing room highlighting the areas we need to be better for our performances to be where they need to be.”

Ethan Havard came off the interchange bench to feature for the first time this season, and on his return to action, Peet said: “It was good to see Ethan out there and I thought he did okay. He will go from strength to strength I’m sure.”

On next month’s Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final tie against Hull KR, Peet said: “I’ve said all week that I don’t think the two fixtures will have a knock on effect on one other as there’s still plenty of rugby to be played in between. We will improve for Catalans regardless of what’s to come.”
