Women’s forward Cerys Jones said the Warriors need to ‘keep the intensity’ as they head back into Betfred Women’s Super League action on the road at Huddersfield Giants this Sunday.

The Warriors are currently unbeaten in 2023, something they are keen to continue as the season progresses: “Winning all three nines games was really good, it was such a good experience to show what you can do on the pitch and working together. To come in to the Quarter Finals of the Challenge Cup is also amazing.

“As a team we have all worked hard to get here and everything we are doing in training is paying off on the pitch. Everyone is there for each other, on and off the pitch and we have shown what the Women’s team are made of in our games so far.”

On this week’s game, she said: “Heading to Huddersfield this week we are expecting more intensity, as we are both playing for points on the board, so no doubt they’ll put a shift in. We just have to stay focused and keep the intensity that we having been playing at through the season so far.

“Having drawn against Warrington we’ve been over things that needed to be worked on in training and progressed, so going to Huddersfield we need to keep calm and play like we have been doing so far.”

Jones debuted in 2022, and has now become a regular in the forward pack for the Women: “Making my debut last year was an unreal feeling. Playing rugby at a young age, you always want to get somewhere higher and play for a big team so putting that Cherry and White shirt on for the first time last year was amazing.

“Having the number 35 shirt last season to now wearing 15 is brilliant, having made four appearances already in the season and hopefully making a lot more again is just unreal, I’m improving more and more everyday on the pitch and in training.

She added: “My hopes for this season is to make it to the finals of the Challenge Cup and Grand Final, last year we made it into the Semis, coming close against York – so making it to the Semis again and even getting to the Finals with be amazing.”

Jones also gave her thoughts on the positivity around the squad this year: “Being unbeaten so far shows what kind of team we are, we have younger players in the squad who are amazing, three of them made their debut against Warrington in Round 1 and they all bring something to the team. The squad this season is so strong and I can’t wait to keep showing everyone what we are made of.”
