Coach quotes

Speaking to wiganwarriors.com ahead of the game, Head Coach Kris Ratcliffe said: “It’s been a long pre-season but one that’s been beneficial to the girls in terms of their physical development and with a young squad that’s been a big focus for us. The pre-season games have been good for us and we have shown glimpses of what we can do as a team but it’s also highlighted areas for improvement. Consistency will be key for us to develop our fluency as we move into the league and cup games.

“That being said you can never read too much into pre-season form and things will be different this week. The excitement has certainly built and we are looking forward to the test. Warrington had an outstanding year last season and have massively improved since their last spell in the top division. It is a long time since they lost in a competitive fixture so they will be full of confidence. They’ve scored a lot of points so our defence will be tested and we need to be ready for a tough battle.”

He added: “To make that process easier, we need to test their defence too. We have players that can cause any defence problems so we have to find ways to give them space and opportunity. We had a great attendance and atmosphere at our recent launch event so it would be great to get as many of those supporters down at Victoria Park cheering the team on. It makes a difference and the team hugely appreciates the support.”
