Joe Shorrocks said he was ‘buzzing’ as Wigan Warriors ran out 14-6 winners over rivals St Helens on Good Friday at the DW Stadium in front of a 24,275 strong crowd.

“We’re buzzing to get the win,” he said, “We knew it was going to be a tough game, from start to finish. They brought their game and we knew we would have to dig deep to get the win, and that’s exactly what we did.”

The Warriors man has certainly become a versatile member. Previously having played at Loose forward as well as hooker: “I’ve kind of been chucked in at the deep-end; I played against Leigh last week and I found out on Monday I’d be playing Stand Off against St Helens. It doesn’t get much tougher than that.”

On the atmosphere on Friday, he added: “The fans certainly brought something that, as a team, we thrived off. We love it when the fans turn up in numbers and turn up to support us in full voice like that.”

Shorrocks’ performance also saw him involved all over the park with strong defence: “I think it was just scrambling, scrambling for the boys. I just tried my hardest keep my feet moving and luckily I was there to stop some tries today.”

Finally, Shorrocks gave his thoughts on moving forward: “It’s up to the coaches where I go from here! Hopefully I can play in that position again, I know we’ve got another tough game against Warrington next week, so hopefully I can put my hand up to play in that position again.”
