Wigan Warriors Women’s Academy will face St Helens Women’s Academy in the derby on Wednesday 7th September at Ince Rose Bridge (7pm K.O.)

Established in November 2021, the Women’s Academy has gone from strength to strength as the side prepare to face their third and final fixture of the year against St Helens on Wednesday evening.

Spectators can come down and watch the Women’s Academy Derby game for free, though donations to Ince Rose Bridge are welcome. The bar and kitchen will both be open for anyone wishing to purchase food or beverages. Half time and full time updates will be available on our social media pages.

The Women’s Academy have already played two fixtures in 2022, in the form of a 36-10 victory over Huddersfield in May before beating Leeds Rhinos 32-10 just a few weeks ago.

Speaking on the progress, Head Coach John Whalley said: “The Academy programme has been brilliant this year, it’s a massive credit to the RFL and the clubs that have bought into the process.

“We have had 25 girls come into our Academy system this year all getting game time over the 3 set fixtures, with 9 of those 25 girls also making first team debuts for the Club this season. To be able to see the development pathway in place and it producing future Women’s Super League players, is something we at the club pride ourselves on.”

He added: “Going into the final round of fixtures sees us take on a very strong St Helens team. As soon as the fixtures came out it was the fixture everyone was looking for, it will be a great occassion for both teams being the first Derby fixture at this level and the first Derby for the majority of the girls.”
