May half term camps
May half term saw Wigan Warriors Community Foundation deliver our first Player camp after a triumphant weekend in London for the first team, which saw them lift the Challenge Cup trophy.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, we welcomed over 100 children to Robin Park Arena for our half term Rugby League Player Camp. During the camp, children take part in high quality Rugby League coaching from qualified and experienced staff and train at Robin Park Arena, the home of Wigan Warriors. Activities included in the camp range from basic skills (Grip and Carry, Pass and Catch) all the way to contact and skill games each afternoon.
On day one, children had the fantastic opportunity to have their picture taken holding the challenge cup. While on day two, they were able to watch a part of the first team training session ahead of their fixture against Castleford.
Community Outreach Officer, Mike Stoneley said: “It has been great to see so many children taking part in the Player Camps this half term. There has been a lot of excitement around the camps this week, with many of the children traveling to London to witness Wigan Warrior win the Challenge Cup or coming down to welcome the team back to Robin Park on Sunday and for the children on camp to have the opportunity to hold the trophy is a huge bonus”
Player camps are available for all children aged 6-11 no matter of ability. All sessions are adapted so that every child is challenged weather they have never played Rugby league before, or they have played Rugby League at a high level with a community team. With lots of activity planned for the summer holidays, be sure to keep your eye out for the launch of our holiday camps during the summer holidays.
