Report

Wigan progress to the Quarter Finals after defeat for Bradford against York City Knights confirmed a second place finish in their group. Sinead Doria made her full debut for the Club in the game, getting two conversions.

Wigan had the majority of the opening possession as they came close in the first few minutes, a few errors from the Warriors saw them knock on before going into touch but Jade Gregory-Haselden opened the scoring in the 7th minute, being sent through a gap to crash over, converted by Wilson for 6-0.

Ruth Thomas went over shortly afterwards, Costello working some good space on the left to create an overlap and send Thomas over for her first try in Cherry & White to make it 10-0. Holly Speakman went over immediately afterwards as she crashed under the posts, the conversion from Wilson was on target this time for 16-0.

Rachael House also got her first score in Wigan colours as she crossed in the 17th minute, Georgia Wilson tipped the ball on to send House away who raced and came inside to put the ball down under the sticks. Wilson addd a third conversion for 22-0.

Wilson turned provided again in the 21st minute, this time looping a ball out to the right edge for Anna Davies to add the legs and put the ball down in the right corner, the touchline conversion from Wilson sailed through the uprights to make it 28-0.

Rachael House added her second of the afternoon on the 29th minute, Gabi Leigh stepped inside to unhook the defence and send House over. Wilson was just wide with the extras but Wigan had the 32-0 advantage. Gabi Leigh powered over to get Wigan’s seventh effort of the first half, converted by Wilson to send Wigan into the sheds with a 38-0 lead.

It was a slower start to the second half as Dewsbury had some time on the ball, but Freya Hellin crossed in the 51st minute to put Wigan further ahead, Doria added the conversion on her Club debut to make it 44-0.

Carys Marsh was next to add her name to the scorelist, clever thinking saw her run it from dummy half to put the ball in-goal and put Wigan out of reach. Doria was on kicking duties again, the touch judges waved the effort off as a miss to see the score at 48-0.

Speakman was almost over for her second as she pushed towards the line but just before she could get the ball to ground it came free to see the effort go begging from the forward. Anna Davies went over for her second of the afternoon as she eased over on the right edge, Doria was just wide with the conversion and it was 52-0.

Gabi Leigh crossed for her brace on the left edge in the 70th minute. Anna Davies sealed her hat-trick in the 78th minute, collecting a lofted pass and cutting inside to fool her defenders and get the score. Doria added the conversion to seal a 62-0 victory for the Women.
