Hooker Sam Powell believes the performance against Hull KR was ‘not acceptable’ after Wigan encountered their first defeat since the restart.

Speaking to Wigan TV shortly after the full-time whistle, the 28-year-old was critical of his side’s performance on the night.

“I’m really disappointed. We’ve got 17 lads there who are very disappointed with what we’ve served up there.

It’s probably an attitude thing which is not acceptable when you pull on a Wigan top.”

Pinpointing some of the areas which he felt the Warriors should have done better in, Powell said: “It was really frustrating, the ruck was really slow, we turned too much ball over and we never really got a grip of it in D (defence).”

Powell scored his sixth try of the season in the defeat to Rovers.

The Wiganer did praise the approach of Hull KR, who played with with a free-flowing style not ususally expected of a side at the foot of the table.

“Full credit to Hull KR. They’ve stuck to that style of play and it worked for them today.”
