Over the next few weeks we will take a look back at Wigan Warriors best matches ‘on this day’ from the last few years.

On this day (14th May 2017) the Warriors beat Swinton Lions 12-42 at Heywood Road.

Joe Burgess was in fine form, as he went over twice to help Wigan on their way to the Quarter-Finals of the Challenge Cup.

Burgess went over twice on this day in 2017.

The scores were opened after nine minutes, as Joel Tomkins, who was playing at stand-off, raced through.

Liam Farrell added his name to the scoresheet ten minutes later, before Burgess got his first of the afternoon.

Just after the half hour mark, former Swinton loanee, Liam Marshall, got Wigan’s fourth.

Three minutes into the second half, the Lions were able to pull one back, as Grant Gore got a deserved try for his side.

Despite that, Wigan could not be slowed down, as Burgess ran over for his second, before Tom Davies, Josh Ganson and Nick Gregson all went over too.

With five minutes of play left, Mike Butt got another consolation for the home side, but it was the Warriors who progressed to the next round of the competition.
