Wigan Warriors captain Liam Farrell is ‘looking forward’ to playing his first pre-season minutes in Sunday’s friendly against Hull FC at the MKM Stadium.
Farrell reported back to Robin Park Arena in December to commence pre-season after an extended break due to his participation in England’s Test Series win over Tonga.
The Warriors skipper is one of seven players yet to feature in pre-season who have been included in the 22-man squad to face Hull FC on Sunday, and looking ahead to the friendly, Farrell said: “It’s been very good since getting back with all the lads and now it feels like we are straight back into games.
Farrell added: “A lot of hard work has been put in and I feel like we are in a good position and I’m looking forward and ready to play this weekend.”
Matt Peet’s side will travel to Hull to take on the Black and Whites in former Warrior, Scott Taylor’s testimonial match. Taylor, who retired from the sport at the end of the 2023 season, won the Grand Final and Challenge Cup during his time at the DW Stadium.
Speaking on the fixture, Farrell said: “I’ve been there myself and as much as it can be time consuming, it’s a great occasion.
“Tag has worked hard for a long period of time now, he had a great few years here at Wigan, and I hope he thoroughly enjoys his testimonial match on Sunday.”
Despite not featuring in last weekend’s friendly against Wakefield Trinity, Farrell, who watched from the stands in West Yorkshire, is confident that the Warriors can build on the performance.
The forward said: “Across the board I think there will be areas the lads were really pleased with but also areas where they will want to improve.
“I think we took a lot out of the game which is healthy going into this weekend. Our biggest aim at the start of the year will be making sure that we build on the simple things and get them right.”
