  • FT | Wigan Warriors 30-8 Catalans Dragons.

Harry Smith believes wigan took a step in the right direction following a 30-8 win over catalans dragons at the dw stadium.

Despite trailing 8-6 to the Dragons at the break, second half tries from Smith, Adam Keighran, Liam Farrell and Abbas Miski rounded off an emphatic display to secure the two points.

Speaking post-match, Smith said: “It’s been a tough week of reviewing some honest words between the lads after a performance that wasn’t good enough at Hull KR. There’s still more to work on but we are pleased to be on the right side of the result this week.”

Reflecting on the win, Smith said: “I thought defensively we were a lot better this week which is a real positive. They scored one try after we put ourselves under a bit too much pressure by conceding too many errors but in the second half we came through that to score some nice tries of our own.”

On the dominant second half performance, Smith added: “We knew at half time that the effort and intent of how we wanted to play was there, but a few errors led to them gaining better field positioning. We knew if we cut those out and gained better field position ourselves then we’d come out on the right side which happened in the end.”

Smith scored his second try of the season and maintained a perfect record from the tee in the win, and on his performance, he said: “It was nice as I wasn’t supposed to be kicking but Adam felt a tweak in the first half so I was happy to take over. I don’t score many tries as well so it was nice to get over for one.”

Reflecting on the season so far, Smith said: “It’s been a positive season so far. There’s been a few results we’ve been on the wrong side of, but for most weeks we’ve put in the right effort and intent to win matches.”

Smith added: “We know we still have a lot to work to do but we are going in the right direction and if we can keep to tonight’s standard then it will help us go a long way for the rest of the year.”
