  • Legendary ‘The Verve’ frontman set to rock Robin Park Arena.
  • After Saturday tickets sold out, an extra date has been added which tickets can be purchased now via Gigsandtours.com, Ticketmaster.com and RichardAshcroft.com.

Wigan Warriors and SJM Concerts are proud to announce that two-time Ivor Novello award winner Richard Ashcroft will return to Wigan for a two night performance at Robin Park Arena.

The outdoor show will take place on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July, with the Billinge-born 52-year-old set to rock the Douglas Valley once again. Formerly the frontman of The Verve, it will be the first time Ashcroft has played in Wigan since the famous Haigh Hall concert in front of 35,000 people, now an iconic moment in music history, just over 25 years ago.

Tickets for the Saturday were released on Friday morning, and after a phenomenal demand, sold out in the afternoon. An extra show on the Sunday has since been added, and tickets are now on sale.

With The Verve, Ashcroft released one of the biggest albums of the era in the shape of ‘Urban Hymns’, as well as a succession of anthems which remain staples of his live set today, including ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’, ‘Bittersweet Symphony’, ‘Lucky Man’ and ‘Sonnet’. His most recent album, ‘Acoustic Hymns’, was released in 2022 and reached No.2 in the UK Album Chart.

Warriors’ Chief Executive Kris Radlinski said: “The 24th of May 1998 remains etched in the memories of many Wiganers, myself included, as a cultural pinnacle when The Verve electrified Haigh Hall to its core. It was a moment that Wigan created as a lasting, “I was there” memory for the town.

“Fast forward 26 years, and one of the most iconic rock and roll singers of all time, Mr. Richard Ashcroft, is set to make a triumphant return to Wigan. This is a realisation of a goal we’ve pursued for nearly a decade.

Radlinski added: “The vision for Robin Park has always been to create a welcoming space where people feel an integral part of our community. In July 2024, we extend an invitation to experience an entirely new dimension, bringing one of our long-standing dreams to reality.

“I express deep gratitude to Simon Moran and Steve Walton from SJM for trusting us with the responsibility of hosting this monumental occasion. Be sure not to miss this extraordinary event. This is really happening “

Richard Ashcroft said: “After 25 years, I’m back playing in my hometown.

“Looking forward to an amazing night in Wigan.”
