  • FT | Wigan Warriors 26-12 Warrington Wolves.

Matt Peet hailed Wigan Warriors’ 26-12 victory over Warrington Wolves as an ‘important win’ at the DW Stadium.

Reflecting on the performance, Peet said: “There were elements of our performance that were pleasing, but also areas we need to improve. We have to be better at the start of games as it took a few lads off the bench – in particular Kai [Pearce-Paul] – to spark us through the middle.

“The two tries we conceded were poor, but in the second half we were stiffer defensively which was pleasing. The most important thing tonight is that we got the win.”

Speaking on Warrington Wolves, Peet said: “They came here to play and they were full of energy. They also showed enthusiasm and commitment, as well as testing us throughout.”

Pearce-Paul marked his return from injury with a Man of the Match performance at the DW Stadium, and on the second rower, Peet said: “The injury gave him a chance to concentrate on his psychical development and also reignite that hunger to be out there which he certainly showed.

Peet added: “He did exactly what we was hoping for tonight – and more. All credit goes to him.”

Speaking on the Warriors support, Peet said: “The fans come to celebrate this club and hopefully some of the rugby and tries was worth them giving up their time. The fans have been excellent and hopefully they thought tonight was a performance to be proud of.”

Looking ahead to next Sunday’s Challenge Cup semi-final, Peet said: “It’s certainly a nicer feeling going into it after a win, however, there are still things we need to learn and fix up on from this game.”
