  • Leeds Rhinos v Wigan Warriors, Saturday 18 May, 1:45pm K.O.

Chris Greenhalgh has shared his excitement ahead of saturday’s betfred Wheelchair Challenge cup semi-final.

Wigan take on Leeds Rhinos at Hull’s Allam Sports Centre as the Warriors aim to reach the competition’s final for the first time in the Club’s history.

The Warriors progressed to the semi-final after beating last year’s competition runners up, Halifax Panthers, 70-32 at Robin Park Arena.

Reflecting on the victory, head coach and player, Greenhalgh said: “It was a good challenge and the team played very well against a Halifax side who are fast and physical. We came away with things to work on and the squad have responded well in training since then with what we have asked.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s semi-final, the Warriors head coach said: “It’s always great to play in the Challenge Cup and the whole squad is looking forward to this tie. It’s an extra special feeling being involved in a semi-final alongside the Men’s and Women’s this weekend.”

On facing Leeds Rhinos, Greenhalgh added: “It’s always tough against Leeds as they’re a well-coached team stacked with international players. They’re fast, physical and well-drilled, so whilst we are expecting a tough challenge, ultimately it’s one we are looking forward to.”

Describing what it would mean to reach a first Wheelchair Challenge Cup final, Greenhalgh said: “As a team we go into every game wanting to win but the reward of a final has magnified our motivation. Most of our squad are Wigan fans so to pull on the Cherry and White shirt in a Challenge Cup final would be the stuff of dreams – hopefully we can turn that into a reality.”

The action gets underway at 1:45pm and supporters can attend the clash for free at Hull’s The Allam Sports Centre (HU6 7TS).
