Wigan Warriors Wheelchair claimed a huge two Betfred Wheelchair Super League points with a commanding win over Hull on Sunday afternoon.

After back to back defeats to London Roosters, Wigan turned things around with a trip to Hull FC on Sunday. The Warriors took the lead early in the game when Nathan Roberts opened the scoring before Martin Lane crossed for a brace.

Having converted the first three tries, Dec Roberts was the scorer of the fourth, with brother Nathan then doubling his tally, and Adam Rigby making it six. With all conversions successful, the Warriors were now 36-0 in front.

Coming off the bench on the half hour mark, Lenny Izzard was the next player in a Cherry & White shirt to score. It was then time for lane to complete his hat trick and extend the lead further. Roberts added the extras from the kicking tee, before missing a penalty seconds before half time to make the score 48-0 at the break.

As predicted, the Black & Whites weren’t going to be a walkover after they had put in some good displays in recent rounds. Despite the scoreline, they came out firing after the turnaround and got their just rewards. It was Player/Coach Mike Swainger who scored both the try and conversion to get his side off the mark.

Wigan were able to hit back through Chris Greenhalgh, but Hull were able to register their second try to keep themselves in the game.

A fourth try from Lane, plus a conversion from Phil Roberts, made it 58-10 to Wigan, but yet again, Hull FC weren’t going to just rollover. Back to back tries, the second of which came from former Warriors player Martin Norris, was enough to give themselves a boost going into the final 10 minutes.

The last two tries of the game saw Lane cross for his fifth, the first Warriors player to do so this SL season, and Nathan Roberts compete his hat trick. Conversion from Phil Roberts and Rigby sealed the win with a 70-20 final score.
