Wigan Warriors extended their winning streak to four matches with a 42-16 victory over Hull KR at Sewell Group Craven Park.

Warriors set the tone from the first whistle, and after a trio of early penalties, the ball was quickly worked wide to George O’Loughlin who was able to open the scoring in the left hand corner.

After defending firmly to hold Hull KR up over the line, Warriors added a second try when Kian McDermott powered the ball down after collecting a pass 10m out. Nathan Lowe kicked his first goal of the match, to give Wigan a 10-0 lead after 13 minutes.

KR momentarily reduced the score line when Zach Fishwick crashed over from close range after a spell of pressure, however, Trent Kelly-Dufffy extended Warriors’ lead when he touched down beneath the sticks off the back of a short pass.

A kind bounce from the restart allowed the hosts to hit back immediately through Josh Ratuvou, however, Warriors responded with a fourth try when an overlap resulted in Lowe diving over before he added the extras to give Wigan a 22-10 lead after 30 minutes.

Warriors capped off an impressive first half performance with a fifth try when Tom Ratchford dummied his way over after picking up from the play the ball. Lowe was successful with the kick to give Warriors a 28-10 lead at the break.

A feisty restart saw Trent and Dylan Kelly-Duffy – as well as James Farrar for Hull KR – sent to the sin bin for their part in an altercation eight minutes into the half, before the hosts made the extra man count when Connor Barley went over for a converted try on 54 minutes.

Warriors restored their 18 point advantage when Ratchford’s delicate kick in behind was pounced on by Charlie Yeoman’s, before Lowe resumed his success from the tee to put Wigan 34-16 ahead with 65 minutes on the clock.

The Cherry and Whites rounded off an impressive performance with two further tries in the last 10 minutes. First O’Loughlin added his second of the afternoon in the corner, before two clever kicks switched play to Maddox Jeffery who was able to fend off the attempted tackle to dive over.
