Grace Banks said she wants to continue to ‘do the best job she can’ after a fantastic start to the 2023 season.

Banks scored Wigan’s only try in their recent Derby defeat to St Helens, but relished a memorable try: “It was a pretty special try, linking up with Beri [Salihi] who is my best friend and who I have played with since being a kid. Knowing how big a Wigan and Saints derby is, I was just glad I could contribute on day.”

Despite being only 17-years-old, Banks was handed the number 6 shirt ahead of the season and has reflected on her journey so far: “It has been a really big challenge and one I probably underestimated but I have had lots of support from everyone involved with the Women’s team and I am now feeling more confident going into the upcoming games.

“I’m naturally quite bossy so I haven’t found the transition to 6 too hard! I only started playing in the halves 12-months ago and sometimes I do feel a bit of pressure but I just want to do the best job I can for the team.”

This week, the Warriors face Huddersfield in the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Quarter Finals. Banks gave her thoughts on the opposition: “It was a very physical game against them last time, so I am expecting it to be the same this weekend. They pose a real threat on the edges but if we play like I know we can, I’m hoping we will get the result. I’m looking forward to the game, I look forward to any opportunity I have to put the Wigan shirt on.”

Finally, the young half back is looking forward to playing in front of a good crowd at Robin Park Arena, with the game part of the pre-match fan village before the first team game at the DW Stadium: “As the home team it would mean a lot to have the support. It definitely makes a difference and will spur us on to get the win for those who come and support us.”

Doors to the fan village open at 11am this Sunday 18th June, with the Women’s team kicking off at 11:30am. Entry is free and the onsite Club store and bars will be open for refreshments from 11am.
