Wigan Warriors Captain Liam Farrell spoke to Wigan TV following Friday’s loss to Leeds Rhinos.

Reacting at full time, Farrell said: “We knew Leeds’ threats, we knew they were possible of blowing a game wide open but I think in the first half we did a good job of nullifying that. They got a chancers try right at the end of the first half and I thought we really dominated the first half.”

He added: “You saw a really contrasted team in the second half. We didn’t show anything like the way we’ve been playing all year and it’s a difficult one to take.”

Leeds saw Zane Tetevano sent off in the first half as the Rhinos played the second half with a man down: “Sometimes it can be a burden when a team goes down to 12-men and they find some extra energy from somewhere. We didn’t nullify Leeds’ threats in the second half, they caused us a lot of problems and there’s quite a few things to fix going into the game next week but that’s the important thing – we get to have another crack at them.”

On moving forward, the Wigan Warriors Captain said: “I’d like to think you’ll see a reaction from us next week. 1-17 tonight we’re disappointed with the performance and there’s quite a few errors to fix up defensively. I don’t think there’s anything technical, just desire and effort wasn’t there in the second half.

“Leeds were the better team in the second half and caused us a lot of trouble so we’re looking forward to the challenge again next week.”

The Warriors and Rhinos come head-to-head again next Saturday in the Challenge Cup Sixth Round: “Nothing will change, in the first half I thought we really kept Leeds at bay and they didn’t have much up against us but if we do what we did in that second half we’ll be in trouble so it’s about doing more of what you saw in that first half.”
