Cust: Going the right way

• Cade Cust looks ahead to his first Good Friday derby experience since joining Wigan.

Cade Cust says the Warriors are ‘going the right way’ as he reflected on his time with the Warriors so far, as the Aussie also prepares to experience a Good Friday derby for the first time.

With a number of games under his belt, Cust looked back on his time in Wigan so far: “It’s been very good so far, winning games helps but we’re going the right way and keep improving each week.”

The half back also gave his thoughts on Wigan’s most recent victory over Wakefield Trinity in the Challenge Cup: “It was a very good team performance, they (Wakefield) put us under a lot of pressure in that first 20 minutes and I think the resilience in our defence showed towards the end, when we got the ball we started putting some points on them so pleased to get through to the Semi Final.”

With Good Friday in sight, Cust said he was looking forward to his first experience in a fixture against St Helens: “There’s a lot of history between the two Clubs and there’s a lot of excitement, I can’t wait to go out there, put a performance in and come up against one of the best striking teams in the past few years.

“The fans been talking to me pretty much since I got here about it, so not even just the last week it’s been throughout the months that I’ve been here, they can’t wait for Good Friday’s game so I’m just looking forward to getting out there, putting a good performance in and giving it to them.”

Cust also spoke about his progression in Cherry & White so far: “I think I’m going pretty good, working hard, on the field at training I’m just trying to get those little connections and we’re progressing really well so it’s exciting times ahead.”
