Peet previews Saints

  • Matt Peet previews the Warriors trip to St Helens on Good Friday.
  • Peet: “They’re always classic games, very intense, two teams that play the game the right way and there’s a lot of pride at stake.”
  • St Helens v Wigan Warriors, Friday 15th April, 3pm K.O.

Matt Peet is expecting a classic Good Friday match as Wigan take on Saints this week in front of a sell out crowd at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Speaking about the fixture, Peet said: “These two teams know each other really well and they’ve got a style that everyone is familiar with because it’s the best team in the competition. You don’t have to tell the players too much about St Helens, they’re well aware of the threats that they bring but there’s not doubt they’re a great side.

“They’re always classic games, very intense, two teams that play the game the right way and there’s a lot of pride at stake.”

With the first game in front of a sell out crowd for a few years, the Head Coach added: “I think you’ve felt something special for a few weeks now around this fixture because people have missed it. Rivalries aside, I think it’s just going to be fantastic to see two Rugby League towns come together in a showpiece occasion. I hope every fan enjoys it, and I hope the game delivers, we’ll be hoping to keep up our end of the bargain as far as commitment and entertainment is concerned.”

Peet insisted that recovery is key during the Easter period: “Recover is essential and a priority but we aren’t looking to change a great deal going into this game. We’re looking to flow into it and to play our style, impose our style on the game. Training this week is more about refining a few things and recovery is the absolute priority.”

On Zak Hardaker, Peet said: “Zak dipped under some of our standards in the last week, but he’s been good today. We had a good conversation with him this morning and he understands and we move on as a group, this week unfortunately it is without Zak but he’s trained well this week and he is still very much still part of the team. What is important now for us and for Zak is how we move forward.”
