Warriors Weekend round-up

  • First team claimed victory over Hull FC at the DW Stadium on Friday night.
  • Reserves and Wheelchair teams were also victorious over the weekend.
  • Our PDRL side played their first games of 2022 in a tournament.

It was a great weekend for the Warriors as the first team, Reserves, PDRL and Wheelchair teams all claimed wins.

Matt Peet’s first team came away with the two-points on Thursday night in an arm-wrestle of a game which saw Harry Smith kick a match-winning drop goal in the 78th minute to see Wigan to a sixth win in Betfred Super League. Read the full match report from the first team game HERE.

On Friday night, it was the turn of the Reserves side which saw Iain Thornley feature in his first game since returning from an injury sustained in Round 1 of Betfred Super League. Ramon Silva also got his first taste of action in Cherry & White. It was a dominant game for the Reserves, with Ben O’Keefe the star of the show as he crossed for four tries as the Warriors came away with a 50-0 win.

On Saturday, our PDRL side got their first competitive outing of 2022 as they played in a tournament competition. Games saw Wigan face Warrington Wolves and Bradford Bulls, with their third game against Castleford Tigers postponed.

The Warriors first game against Warrington was a close affair, Ben Seward and Craig Davies both got on the scoresheet but Warrington took a narrow 12-10 win. The second game saw possession swing much more in Wigan’s favour as they crossed for five tries through Vose, Ratcliffe, Seward, Craig Davies and Dean Davies to see a fantastic 28-4 victory.

Finally, on Sunday our Wheelchair side returned to winning ways as they racked up just short of 100-points on the road to North Wales Crusaders. Declan Roberts got a personal haul of 41-points with four tries, twelve conversions and a drop goal but it was a fantastic effort all round for the Cherry & Whites to get their third win of the season in Betfred Wheelchair Super League.
