Alex Sutton got a personal haul of 20-points as Wigan Warriors Reserves ran out deserved winners in a 40-6 victory over Leeds Rhinos Reserves on Friday evening.

Miski and Sutton cancelled out an early Leeds try to see Wigan in with an 8-6 lead at half-time, but the Warriors put in a rampant second half display, scoring 6 unanswered tries to come away with an outstanding win on Friday night.

Report

It was a quiet opening on Friday evening as both teams battled to break the deadlock in the opening 10 minutes. It was the hosts, Leeds Rhinos who opened the scoring in the 14th minute after getting a scrum deep inside the Warriors territory, they asked the questions before Jack Sinfield sent a grubber kick through for Joe Gibbons to get the try and put Leeds 6-0 up.

The Warriors responded quickly as Logan Astley fired a pass out to the left wing to see Abbas Miski over for the score, the conversion attempt was missed by Hanley and the Warriors trailed by two.

Wigan were in again in the 24th minute, Astley and Miski linked up well once more to trouble the Leeds defence but it was Alex Sutton who touched the ball down on the left wing to put the Warriors ahead for the first time in the match and see them in with an 8-6 lead at the break.

Wigan were much more clinical in the second forty as they put in a relentless display. Abbas Miski secured his brace on 45 minutes as he backed up the attack on the left before Brad O’Neill crashed over in the 58th minute to see Wigan at 18-6.

Just minutes later Leeds completed their set to see Wigan start from their own goal line but a burst through the line from Miski saw him race the full length of the pitch, the Lebanese International was tackled just before the line but not before he got the offload away for Alex Sutton to get the second of the game in a fantastic try from the Warriors.

Almost immediately Sutton was over again to complete his hat-trick in the 66th minute as Wigan sped down the right wing, the score extended Wigan’s lead to 28-6 with just over 10 minutes left on the clock.

Logan Astley was next on the scoresheet as he carved open a gap to race through and score in the corner, before Jack Bibby added to the tally, latching onto a grubber kick through from Astley to put the ball down under the sticks, the effort was converted as Wigan sealed the 40-6 win at Stanningley to make it three wins from three in the Reserves league.
