Wigan’s £1k for 1k

The annual Super League Magic Weekend on Sunday 5th September will also be a Magic Fundraising Weekend for the Community Foundation.

Staff, ex-players, and a team of amazing supporters will embark on a fundraising mission to raise vital funds for the Community Foundation.

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation are entering teams into the Wigan 10K and the Manchester 100 bike ride; and our Rugby Memories group are stepping up to the challenge and completing a 1K walk at Robin Park Arena. The 1K is on Friday 3rd September at 10:30am and will be supported by our Women’s team captain, Rachel Thompson, and teammate Georgia Wilson.

The group will be completing their walk on the running track at Robin Park and hope to raise £1K to help support the continued delivery of group sessions. The group has been running now for over three years and has been a life line for some of the most vulnerable members of the community; providing support for people living with dementia, carers, and people who may have become isolated.

Health and wellbeing manager, Claire Taylor, said: “The weekly sessions help people feel connected to their Club and make new friends. We do our best to provide a variety of activities; helping to improve people’s physical health and their sense of wellbeing.”

Rugby Memories sessions are free to attend and run every Tuesday, 2-4pm at St. Cuthbert’s rugby club, Montrose Avenue, Wigan.
