In Memoriam: Paul Stanton

Wigan Warriors were saddened to hear of the passing of long-term sponsor and supporter Paul Stanton earlier this week.

Wigan Warriors Executive Director, Kris Radlinski: “This week we heard of the tragic passing of one of our long term supporters and sponsors, Paul Stanton.

“Paul had been fighting a GMB4 brain tumour for 16 months, not bad when you consider the doctors only gave him six months to live. Paul was really special to all at Wigan Rugby League Club. Over many years he invested a great deal of money and off-field support to our administration team.

“When we heard the news yesterday it really rocked us. Since finding out about Paul’s illness, it became a weekly part of my routine to drop Paul and e-mail to talk about rugby and the team.  No matter what time of day, Paul would always respond. With Paul’s experience in law, he was always there to advise on any tricky situation that we faced.

“It didn’t matter whether we won or we lost, Paul always had our backs. He was a true supporter in every sense of the word and we’ve have lost a very special man.”

The thoughts of everyone at Wigan Warriors are with Paul’s wife Colette, kids Izzy and Paul and his wider family and friends at this very sad time.
