Luke Thompson says Wigan are looking to ‘bounce back’ ahead of Thursday’s Betfred Super League Round 10 fixture at home to Catalans Dragons at the DW Stadium.

Thompson signed for the Warriors in October 2023 ahead of the 2024 Betfred Super League Campaign. The two-time Super League winner and two-time Dream Team member reflected on his time at Wigan so far: “I’m really enjoying it so far, I feel like I’ve been playing well and consistently and I’m happy with some of the team performances as well. Last week was a bit disappointing, but we’re looking to bounce back this week against Catalans.”

Looking back on Friday’s defeat to Hull KR, Thompson said: “Hull KR got the jump on us, we conceded first and then I think they got their tails up. We were down at half-time, fought back in the second half and responded well but couldn’t get the job done. We look to bounce back this week and that’s the beauty of Rugby League, there’s always next week to fix it up.”

When asked about his form so far, the forward commented: “I rested up in the off season and got a good pre-season under my belt. I’m quite happy with how I’m going and I’m always looking to build on my performances each week. I’ve got my match fitness back and I’m enjoying my Rugby so I’m just doing my job for the team.”

This week the Warriors welcome Catalans Dragons to the DW Stadium. It will be the first time the two sides have faced off in 2024, with both sides also entering the game on the back of defeats.

On the opposition, Thompson said: “If you look back on the last couple of years, they’re a competitive and well-coached side and they’ve reached a couple of Grand Finals in recent years so they’re definitely one of the top teams in the competition. We’re aware of that and we need to make sure we bring our best on Thursday.”

He added: “We’ve got to take last week as a good wake up call, we look forward to getting back out on the pitch on Thursday night and hopefully get we can back on the right side of the scoreboard.”

Questioned on Wigan’s forward pack options, the 29-year-old said: “We’ve just got Ethan Havard back who is a great athlete and this week we get Byrney [Liam Byrne] back from suspension so I look forward to having those two back out with us but it’s exciting, there’s a good few years ahead especially with the depth we’ve got and the young lads coming through.”
