Brad O’Neill shared his disappointment following Wigan Warriors’ Betfred Super League defeat to St Helens.

Sharing his thoughts post-match at the Totally Wicked Stadium, O’Neill said: “It’s a tough defeat to take. We knew it would be tough coming here and even though the intent and effort was there from the all the lads, things just didn’t go our way which we are gutted about.”

On the intensity of the clash, O’Neill added: “Any Wigan v Saints game whether that’s on Good Friday or at Sunday league level is the most intense game of the year. We look forward to these kind of games but today we came out on the other side of it.”

Reflecting on the positives despite the defeat, O’Neill said: “Some things today didn’t go our way when we were on the ball – penalties and errors – but our intent to stay in the game right up until the end is a real positive – we are on the right path.

“Overall it’s a disappointing result but we are definitely going to bounce back from the experience.”

Praising the sold-out travelling support, O’Neill said: “The atmosphere from the Wigan fans never disappoints whether it’s at home or away. They turn out big numbers which helps us get through those tough moments, and their support really does mean a lot.”

Looking ahead to the Warriors clash against Leigh Leopards next Thursday, O’Neill said: “It will be another tough, physical and intense game against Leigh. Hopefully we can come out with the win.”
