Three Warriors have been named in the 19-player squad to face Tonga in Sunday’s opening match of a historic series at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
England Head Coach, Shaun Wane, has named Harry Smith, Liam Farrell and Toby King in his 19-man squad for Sunday’s Test Series opener against Tonga.
If selected, Warriors’ Grand Final-winning captain Farrell will make his first England appearance since October 2021 when he started in a 30-10 win over France in Perpignan.
Smith will be hoping to build on his impressive international debut where he scored a try and converted nine kicks in a 64-0 win over France in April, while King if selected will also make his second appearance after debuting in the same win.
This historic series – the first between the two nations and their first meeting since the 2017 World Cup semi-final in Auckland – will see England kick off the series at the Totally Wicked Stadium, before meetings at the John Smith’s Stadium (Saturday 28 October) and at Headingley Stadium (Saturday 4 November).
Speaking on his squad for the opening match, Wane said: “I’m really pleased and confident with the squad I’ve selected for this opening fixture against Tonga. We’ve had a strong week since arriving in camp and we are heading into this weekend focused with a job to do. We hope the fans will turn out in their numbers to help us over the line.”
