Kaitlin Hilton previews Saturday’s Betfred Women’s Super League Play-Off Semi-Final game against York Valkyrie at the LNER Community Stadium (3:30pm K.O.)

Speaking on the progression of the team in 2023, she said: “It’s been absolutely massive. We’ve had quite a few new players in and players returning from injury such as Rachel (Thompson) and Cailey (Miller) who have done well for the team this year. It’s really exciting looking ahead to this Semi Final, the team we’ve got is strong and people are competing for shirts.”

She added: “Sometimes this season we might have doubted ourselves because we are in that growth stage whereas other teams are getting stronger and stronger. However, we reached the Finals of the Nines tournament and the Semi Final in the Challenge Cup, which was very competitive, so we’ve gained that belief in ourselves that we are as strong, if not stronger than some of the other teams and that we can compete.”

On Saturday’s opposition, York Valkyrie: “They’ll bring a very strong side, they’re unbeaten in the league this season and they’ll be wanting that Grand Final spot again. They’ll come out strong but I think if we bring all the effort that we know we have and with the belief we can win it, we can push them.

“We seem to be York’s Achilles heel sometimes, we beat them in the Nines Semi Final and when they came here we were very dominant, especially in the first half so if everyone has that belief, then we can come away with the win.”

Hilton spoke about the approach going into this weekend’s Semi-Fina: “It’s about intensity, this could potentially be our final game this year, though we hope not. We want to leave York on Saturday having given our absolute everything – we’ve had a really good season of progression and we want to prove that to people.”
