  • Wigan Warriors v Castleford Tigers, Friday 15 September, DW Stadium, 8pm K.O.

Matt Peet spoke to the press on Wednesday afternoon as the Warriors prepare to face Castleford Tigers at the DW Stadium in Round 26 of Betfred Super League.

Speaking on his new four-year contract, Peet said: “I’m really proud. It’s a massive honour and it gives me immense pride knowing that I will be in this privileged position for the next four-years at least. I want to improve, I want to learn, and I feel that this position gives me the perfect platform to do so.”

On the environment at the Club, Peet said: “The great thing about this place at the moment is that we have a fantastic group where the staff and the players are very much aligned. There is a healthy balance between driving each other, wanting to be best, but also enjoying the work we’re doing.”

The Warriors announced the one-year contract extension of Mike Cooper on Wednesday morning, and on the deal, Peet said: “It was a straightforward decision. Mike deserves another year of playing, and he deserves another year at Wigan. He’s come back fitter and stronger, and all the medical reports suggests he’s going to be back fit and ready.”

On the Leeds victory last time out, Peet said: “We were excellent. The lads were committed to the plan and our discipline was what’s needed to win the big games. We were prepared for a game that we’d need to manage the ups and downs of, and it was even more rewarding for the players and the staff that we managed to put Leeds away in the manner that we did.”

On winning the League Leaders Shield, Peet said: “It would be a massive achievement. We would be really proud to finish in that spot because it suggests that throughout the year you might have had some bumps in the road, but on the whole you’ve been a high performing team. Finishing the highest in the table would be a massive reward for the club.”

Looking ahead to Friday night’s clash against Castleford, Peet said: “They won last week so they’ll be coming here full of positivity. We have to be prepared in attack and defence to our standard.”

The Warriors will be holding a Festival of Inclusivity ahead of the game in the Fan Village and at the DW Stadium, and on this, Peet said: “It’s fantastic and exactly what we’re about. Every week inclusivity is high on our radar, and we hope that whenever people come to Robin Park they’re made to feel welcomed.”

Tickets for Friday’s game at the DW Stadium will be on sale up until kick-off and can be purchased online HERE or at the DW Stadium Ticket Office (9am-5pm Mon-Fri and until K.O. on Friday 15 September).
