Peet previews Hull FC

  • Matt Peet looks ahead to Friday’s Betfred Super League Round 22 game against Hull FC.
  • Peet: “There’s positivity around camp and a good few days training so we look forward to Friday.”
  • Wigan Warriors v Hull FC, Friday 18 August, DW Stadium, 8pm K.O.

Matt Peet spoke to the press on Wednesday afternoon as the Warriors prepare to face Hull FC at the DW Stadium in Round 22 of Betfred Super League.

Speaking on the back of a week without a game, the Warriors Head Coach said: “The lads appreciate having time to freshen up, although we wish we’d have had a Final to look forward to, it does come in handy to rest a few tired bodies, bumps and bruises.

“We’ve trained hard off the back of it and hopefully we’ll see the benefits of that in the coming weeks. There’s positivity around camp and a good few days training so we look forward to Friday.”

On the importance of rest and recovery going into the end of the season, he added: “It’s a balancing act between giving the lads time to freshen up but also not de-training them. In general we’re a young, fit team and our lads are keen to train hard but we do have to have that balance between rest and recovery. We took the opportunity to go to Sale and use their facilities and we had a good day training there but it’s nice to be back at home this week.”

It will be a double bill on Friday as the Warriors Reserves will face off against Hull FC Reserves at Robin Park Arena (5:30pm K.O.) before the First Teams for both sides go head-to-head at the DW Stadium (8pm K.O.): “A couple of the lads will feature in the Reserves. We’re looking forward to putting out two strong teams on Friday and it will be needed because Hull at both First Team and Reserves grade are in a rich run of form so it should be a very competitive evening across the two games.”

Peet added: “It is important that you pick up wins and build up form. It’s important that you train well and maximise every minute on the training field. Every game seems crucial at the moment with the way it’s stacked throughout the table so every two points is critical and trying to find your best form going into the knockout stages, equally so.”
