Makin moves on loan to Raiders
Wigan Warriors can confirm that prop forward Harvey Makin has joined Barrow Raiders on an initial one-month loan deal.
Makin signed his first contract with Wigan in 2020, and was one of six Warriors to represent Lancashire in the 2021 Origin Academy clash with Yorkshire.
He has featured twice for Betfred League 1 side Oldham this season, as part of Wigan’s dual-registration agreement with the club.
Makin also played for London Broncos in their 20-18 Betfred Championship victory over Batley Bulldogs last weekend.
He becomes the second Wigan player to join the Raiders on loan this year, following in the footsteps of Iain Thornley who scored in the club’s 16-12 win at home to Halifax Panthers back in March.
Wigan will have the option to recall Makin at any point following the first two weeks of the deal.
Barrow Raiders Chairman Steve Neale said: “We are delighted that Harvey has come onboard, as we recognise our shortage of middles with Anton leaving and Ellis Gillam and Jack Wells both suffering injuries.
“This is a great opportunity for Harvey to have an extended run in a Championship side and we look forward to playing our part in his career progression.
“He was in the London team that beat Batley at the weekend, and we were impressed with what we saw on video and have had to fight London off to secure his services.
“We are happy he chose us as his preference, and I’m sure the Barrow fans will give him a special welcome and make him feel at home.”
Warriors transition coach, John Duffy added: “We are delighted to be able to send Harvey to Barrow on an initial one-month loan deal. He has stepped up into the first team environment this year and has already been named in the matchday squads for a few games.
“The opportunity to go on loan to Barrow gives Harvey the chance to build up his game time and test himself at a higher level to ready himself for first team action to be called upon where needed in the future.”
