Morgan Smithies says he is ‘loving’ his time at Wigan Warriors after he made his 100th appearance for the club in a 26-6 win over Salford Red Devils.

Speaking on the result, Smithies said: “It was a tough game. It wasn’t the prettiest and was quite ugly, but we knew that we had to sort our league games out. Hopefully we can move on from now.”

Reflecting on the achievement, Smithies added: “I feel like it’s flown by to be honest. It seems like two minutes since I made my debut. I’m loving my time here and hopefully it can continue.”

The result moves the Warriors up to third in the Super League table, however, Smithies says the players are only focused on results: “As players we don’t really focus too much on the league table, we just take it week by week and try to get the two points each time. However, to be moving up the table is a good feeling.”

The Warriors were backed by a large following at the Salford Stadium, and Smithies praised the travelling support: “The fans were outstanding. There were a few points in the match where I – and some of the other lads – were pretty gassed, but the push from the stands helped get us over the edge.”

The Cherry and Whites return to Super League action for the first time since Round 12 at the DW Stadium, and looking ahead to the visit of Huddersfield Giants, Smithies said: “I’m really looking forward to be being back in front of our home support. Hopefully we can have another great turnout and get the two points to keep rolling.”
