Harry Smith says Wigan’s Challenge Cup Quarter Final win over Warrington Wolves at the DW Stadium is a ‘confidence builder’ going into the second half of the season.

Reflecting at full time, Smith said: “We didn’t make it easy for ourselves, going down to 12-men early but getting that win over the line is going to give us a lot of confidence, not just in the cup but back in the league as well so very happy all around.”

Smith vitally slotted over two conversions and a penalty goal, whilst also getting a try assist with a kick to the corner in the win as he explained: “A lot of practice has been going in over the last two or three weeks, I don’t think I’ve kicked the ball so much in all my life so to be able to put all that practice onto the field and get us over the line was massive – it’s a confidence builder for myself and the whole team.”

The Warriors were also back at the DW Stadium after a short period away due to pitch maintenance, with a fantastic atmosphere on Sunday: “It was absolutely brilliant. I thought the fans were great today, they got behind us a lot especially going down to 12 they gave us that extra bit of energy so we always love playing at home and in front of our fans – hopefully that can continue for the rest of the season when we get back into some home games here at the end of the season.”

The Semi Final draw was conducted at half time at the DW Stadium, with Wigan set to play Hull KR – something Smith says Wigan are looking forward to: “We’ve played them already this year, they managed to get the better of us on the opening day then we got the better of them so I think it’ll be a great game. They like to play the same way as us with free flowing rugby and keeping the ball in play so I think it’ll be a great game. It’s one we’re looking forward to playing, hopefully get the win and get on to Wembley.”

Finally, on chance of getting to Wembley in August, Smith said: “We spoke about it when we played the first game in the Challenge Cup about keeping hold of this Cup and making a bit of history for ourselves going back-to-back. We have a bit of experience from last year, hopefully that will help us against Hull KR and if we can get to that final, help us there too. A positive day all round for us all.”
