Schools War of the Roses

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation hosted the ‘War of the Roses’ schools competition last Wednesday 7th June.

The winners of the Wigan Schools girls Year 7&8 and Year 9&10 festivals held at Robin Park Arena last term played the winners from the Leeds Schools festivals in a ‘War of the Roses’ style competition in a fantastic occasion held at Orrell St James’ Rugby Club.

In the tournament, representatives from Wigan schools were St Peter’s Orrell (Year 7/8) and Bedford High (Year 9/10), whilst the Leeds Schools representatives were Trinity Leeds (Year 7/8) and Farnley Academy (Year 9/10).

Speaking on the event, Rugby Development Manager John Whalley, said: “The growth and development within girls Rugby in the Wigan area is very high and it is clear to see with the work in the schools from the teachers and our Development officers the standard is getting better term by term. Being able to put on these events yearly is fantastic.”
