Peet: Abundance of character

Matt Peet praised the character of his Warriors side as Liam Farrell’s last gasp hat-trick try clinched a dramatic 26-22 golden point victory against Hull KR at the Sewell Group Craven Park.

Speaking on the character shown by his side, Peet said: “I have to commend the character as we have that in abundance. Our work ethic was outstanding, and so was our willingness to keep turning up for one another which was what got us the win.

“We know what we are like when we play well, and what we are like when we play poorly. We want to play well for one another, for the club and to the standards we are capable of playing to.”

After scoring twice in the first half, Liam Farrell completed his hat-trick in the dying seconds as Wigan clinched the two points in a dramatic finale.

Praising Farrell’s performance, Peet said: “He was outstanding. When you see him in those close games where people are getting tired, he is so fit because he works so hard. He rises to the top and that is why we love him here because in big games he puts his hand up time and time again.”

Despite the victory, Peet admitted the result could have gone in Hull KR’s favour: “We can’t shy away from the fact the game could have gone either way. Hull KR are building something special here and credit goes to Willie [Peters] and his players, which is why it is so nice to come away with the win.

“We don’t get carried away with the league table but we understand to come here and get the win in that manner was rewarding – they could be an important two points for us.”

Peet concluded by praising the travelling Wigan support: “I’d like to thank the fans who travelled here on a Thursday night, we owed them that result for the last two games. It was a fantastic advert for Super League, and you aren’t going to get much better than that with the ending.”

Next up the Warriors head to St James’ Park, Newcastle for Magic Weekend as they take on Catalans Dragons. You can purchase your tickets HERE.
