Wigan Warriors Reserves beat Warrington Wolves Reserves 32-0 to make it thirteen straight wins in 2022, remaining unbeaten and seeing them through to the Grand Final to face Wakefield Trinity.

Wigan flew out of the blocks as they opened the scoring after just four minutes, Tom Forber broke down the short side to send centre Sam Halsall away before Halsall put Ben O’Keefe over in the left corner. O’Keefe couldn’t convert his own effort as Wigan led 4-0 early on.

It was a tough affair with a young Wolves’ side applying plenty of pressure on the Warriors. It wasn’t until just short of the half hour when Wigan crossed again, a penalty allowing them deep into the Wolves half. Logan Astley got the pass away to Sam Halsall who cut through a gap to score on the left edge. O’Keefe added the extras this time to make it 10-0.

On the stroke of half time, a pass out of the back from James McDonnell found the hands of Kieran Tyrer who found himself a way over in the right corner, the conversion was missed but Wigan had the 14-0 advantage at the break.

Wigan went over almost immediately from the restart with James McDonnell involved again, this time the forward got an offload to send Tom Forber charging down the centre of the field before finding the supporting Astley to finish off the move close to the uprights. O’Keefe slotted the conversion as Wigan hit 20-0.

Again a stale period saw no scores but Wigan extended their advantage in the 54th minute as Astley fired a pass to O’Keefe out wide to score his second of the evening in the corner and make it 24-0.

Going into the final stages of the game, Wigan broke again as McDonnell kicked a ball through, Kieran Tyrer added a second knock forward from the boot before racing onto it himself to get the ball down.

Wigan completed the victory in the 75th minute as Tom Mitchell got in on the action, evading his defenders to go in on the right edge. Another touchline conversion proved difficult for O’Keefe but Wigan had done enough as they confirmed the 32-0 win.

The win meant that Wigan finished the season with a 100% win record, winning thirteen from thirteen. A spot in the Grand Final awaits the Cherry & Whites, who will play second-place Wakefield Trinity.
