Collection for Bryn Hargreaves

On Friday evening Wigan Warriors will be collecting money on behalf of former player Bryn Hargreaves who is currently missing and his family are hoping the Rugby League community will support them in their quest to find him.

Bryn, Heritage Number 966, made his debut for the Warriors in July 2004 as a substitute against Salford Red Devils and went on to make 33 appearances for the Club across a two year stint in Cherry and White.

He went missing on 3rd January 2022 in Morgantown, West Virginia, USA.

Donation buckets will be carried around the DW Stadium and Fan Village before the game on Friday night. All monies donated will principally be used to fund the investigation into Bryn’s disappearance and any remaining balance will be donated to Rugby League Cares to continue their great work in the aftercare of players and generally within the Rugby League community.

Earlier this week, Wigan Head Coach Matt Peet met Bryn’s family and encouraged everyone to give generously where possible on Friday: “It was heartbreaking, for them to tell us first hand what they have gone through, not knowing where Bryn is and not having that certainty. In his mum’s words, it’s the first thing she thinks of and the last thing she thinks of each day.

“Anything we can do to support Bryn and his family in terms of finance, awareness and moral support, it’s a good opportunity on Friday night for us to raise that a little bit.”

He added: “He’s one of our own, I remember Bryn and his brother played in the Community Rugby in Wigan up in Aspull, it’s terrible and anything that we can do is really important. Everyone needs to be encouraged at the weekend to bring some money, I know that we live in a cashless society these days but there will be a bucket collection and it’s important that we can contribute as best as we can.”
