Ben Westwood on Heritage Day

Ben Westwood sat down with wiganwarriors.com to look ahead to this Friday’s Heritage Day fixture between Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves, where the sides will face off to win the Locker Cup.

The Warrington made over 400 appearances for the Wolves during a career that spanned across 18-seasons, before retiring in 2019. Looking ahead to Friday’s game, he said: “Wigan v Warrington was always one of my most favourite games, these are the ones you look forward to as a player, especially coming here to Wigan at the DW Stadium.

“It was always a great experience, the Warrington fans always filled out the away end, a good couple of thousand there, our extra man and they always helped us along the way. We came away with some good victories over the years too, which was always nice.”

Westwood also mentioned the Locker Cup, which is up for grabs on Friday evening: “The days back to Les Boyd and those types of players, it’s nice to bring that heritage back and it’ll be another incentive for the fans to come and support the boys.”

He added: “We’re not in the best form of late but in Wigan v Warrington fixtures, form goes out of the window and we can hopefully turn up and put in a good performance.”

Finally, Westwood is also looking forward to welcoming fans from both sides to ‘Super Bennie’s Food Emporium’ which will be in residence at the Robin Park Arena Fan Village for the game: “We’re going to fetch it down, shift a few hotdogs and burgers hopefully and you’re more than welcome to come and say hello, say what you want and have a bit of banter – we’ll take it all in good stride so we’re looking forward to it.”

Wigan and Warrington fans can purchase tickets right up until kick off on Friday with no price increase! Get all the information HERE.
