Bevan French starred in a ‘game of two halves’ performance on Friday night as Wigan ran out 30-12 winners against Salford Red Devils.

French told Wigan TV after the game: “I think they definitely came to play in the first half, and I felt like the ball was in play for a long time, everyone was pretty much out on their feet.

“It was good to see us turn up for the second half, we have to enjoy this week off now, it is still scary that we can play a game of two halves and sort of go from there, very happy with the win.”

The full-back turned winger scored a second half hat-trick in the 30-12 win at the AJ Bell Stadium and picked up the player of the match award in the process but he thinks anyone could have got the award: “Marshy [Liam Marshall] again who is always on the scoreboard, Tommy [Thomas Leuluai] with his direction, Harry [Smith], Batty (John Bateman), and Willie [Isa] had a few assists. It is crazy, you could name everyone – they all did their job really well I was just lucky to get picked I think.”

When asked about the impressive rugby shown especially in the second half, French added: “Yeah we have sort of gelled together and it is just happening, we don’t really need to talk about where we are going, everyone just plays off the back of one another, it is a beautiful thing to be a part of.

“You obviously have your generals and leaders directing your way to go but when everyone is on the same wavelength and flowing, it is crazy.”

After a hectic first half of the season French comments on how crucial the week off will be: “It is good to come into the break second place on the ladder, we’ve got the [Challenge Cup] trophy as well so we have a well-earned rest now after the boys have invested a lot of energy into the first half of the season.”
