April Development Days sees increase in numbers

Over 300 local Community players attended our April half term sessions across two days at Robin Park Arena.

Ranging from U12s to U16’s, male and female, the sessions were designed to give all community players a free open access session with Wigan Warriors development coaches and insight of what it’s like to be a Wigan Warrior.

Some sessions included a variety of athletic development testing stations that are used by all the performance teams, speed and strength stations was a real highlight of the days. All players were guided through a technical contact session in the popular wrestle area.

Alongside the testing, participants were challenged to a skill and decision-making session outside on the 3G pitches.

Danny Fullerton, Rugby Development Manager, said: “Each half term is a fantastic opportunity for all junior players from U12s to U16s, male and female, to attend a Free training session with Warriors community and performance coaches. Every half term is a chance for all community players to showcase there skills and improve the fundamentals of the game.

“It’s great to see more females attending these sessions following the Community Club session invites lead by John Whalley, these sessions are having a real positive impact on the growth of female rugby league in Wigan. We welcome everyone in the May half term development day program where we will continue to support all juniors with there personal development.”

John Whalley, Women & Girl’s development officer added: “Following on from our first development day of the year with 24 girls present, there was a considerable rise to 86 in attendance during our April development days, this is largely down to our high school and Community Club invite programme run through our Community Foundation. We are looking forward to our next development day in May, with further opportunities available for local girls.”
