Injury update

  • In partnership with Blindspot Global, Matt Peet provides an update on injuries in the squad.
  • Liam Marshall and Willie Isa both left the field in the first half against Hull FC last Thursday.
  • Iain Thornley returned from injury to feature for the Reserves last Friday.

Matt Peet confirmed that he will give Willie Isa and Liam Marshall ‘as long as they need’ as they continue to assess minor injuries picked up in last week’s Betfred Super League game against Hull FC.

Speaking to Wigan TV this week, Peet said: “Liam has done his hamstring and Willie has banged his shoulder but neither of them are particularly serious injuries, it’s very live with those two and we’ll monitor them consistently.

Marshall went off at half time against Hull FC last week.

“They are in the mix and are training well. We will give them as long as they need to prove their fitness, because they are two important players. We don’t have a decision on them yet.”

The Head Coach also spoke about Bevan French who returned to action after 11 months out last week and also Iain Thornley who featured for the Reserves against Bradford.

French returned to action last week.

“Other than that (Isa and Marshall) we are really healthy. It’s great to have Bevan back, and Iain played 40 minutes in the Reserves, so he comes into contention.

Thornley featured for the Reserves on Friday night.

“We’ve got a good squad, we knew from the start of the year that we’d strengthened in the backline and it’s proving a good job. Just at the time where we get some potential bangs and bruises, with what has happened to Kai, that’s where the strength of your Academy and recruitment, and your squad depth, is tested. We embrace these times, we pride ourselves on how we deal with it.”
