Matt Peet reflected on the Warriors trip to France, and looked ahead to this week’s game against Castleford Tigers in his weekly press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

“Unfortunately we were outplayed, we started poorly, didn’t play the weather particularly well and Catalans were excellent. They kicked well, held the ball and we did quite the opposite, it’s disappointing because we didn’t show anything like what we’re capable of but credit goes to Catalans,” Peet said looking back on the result last weekend.

The Warriors Head Coach confirmed his 21-player squad on Tuesday ahead of the game. Looking at the players available, he said: “In this case the decision has been made for us in that we’ve lost a couple of lads to suspension, so it gives opportunities to lads who have been waiting in the wings. One thing we’ve said from the start is that we believe we have good depth, we have quality young players and it’s an opportunity to give them a crack. They’ve been waiting, they’ve been patient and we’ll get the opportunity to freshen up on Thursday night, so given the short turnaround it’s probably come at a good time.”

Ethan Havard was named in the 21-player squad, Peet confirmed that he is in with a chance this week as he looks to make his return from injury: “He’s close, we’ve got a few decisions to make yet but he’s certainly in the mix. It’s been noted before this week how dedicated and professional he has been throughout his injury period, that ended up longer, he’s been outstanding and when he does get his chance he’s absolutely earned it. Ethan has been first class.”

Looking at their opponents this week, Castleford Tigers, Peet is expecting them to hit some form in the coming weeks: “They’re going to win at some point and they’ll have a patch in the season, they’ve too much talent, quality in the coaching staff and pride in the shirt. With all those quality players, at some point they’ll start winning – it’s our job to make sure that isn’t this week. With players like McShane, Trueman and the back line that they’ve got, if we’re the slightest bit off, Castleford are a team that can post points.”

Wigan return home to the DW Stadium for Round 6, and Peet is relishing the chance to bounce back with the help of the home fans: “The lads are determined and upbeat. It’s important in sport that you don’t get too high on the wins and too low on the losses, we try and be consistent and keep practices and processes on track. We’re looking forward to the game.

“The fans have been fantastic so far this season and we know if we start well they’ll be right behind us, we look forward to it, the lads are working hard and they appreciate the support as always.”
