Peet: Didn’t show the best of us

  • FT | Catalans Dragons 28-0 Wigan Warriors.

Matt Peet was left disappointed as his Warriors side fell to their first defeat of the season.

“It’s very disappointing. They kicked excellently, completed very high and on the flip side we were in double figures for errors and we didn’t kick well so we didn’t give ourselves a chance,” he said.

Peet added: “I think we’ve learnt some lessons tonight as well as against Toulouse. We’ve not been good enough across the two games bit what it has done is highlighted where we are as a group. It’s important that we stick together and work hard as we always would and we need to attack the next stage of the season.”

The Warriors boss did praise the opposition for taking their opportunities on a frustrating night for Wigan: “I think you’ve got to credit Catalans for pressuring us through the defensive line. They defended well, they were aggressive and forced us into errors. I’m disappointed that we didn’t show the best of us, but it was quite easy to highlight why we didn’t keep hold of the ball.

“They dominated field possession, the way we want to play is move the ball which is difficult to do in this weather but we’ve got to learn to adapt and play different styles and when we do move the ball in the rain our skill has got to be much better.”

Peet summarised: “It’s a bump in the road; it’s our first major test as a group. We were always aware that it won’t be a straight forward season from start to finish, there’ll be times when you are tested and Catalans away, in the pouring rain, is obviously a difficult test but it allows us to find out a lot about ourselves, how we react, how we stick together and stick to our processes. Don’t start doubting everything but just get better at what we’re doing.”

Next up for the Warriors, it’s back home to the DW Stadium as we face Castleford Tigers in Round 6, before facing Hull FC on home turf a week later. Tickets for both games, as well as other upcoming fixtures are available to buy HERE.
