Emerging schools festival

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation recently hosted a rugby festival at Orrell St James ARLFC with over 150 participants getting involved.

The Year 7 boys emerging schools rugby festival took place on Tuesday 8th March at Orrell St James ARLFC, with 13 high schools from the Wigan and Chorley areas getting involved.

There were over 150 participants playing Rugby League throughout the 13 schools and most of these boys do not play for community clubs already. The aim of the festivals is to create playing opportunities for schools mainly who don’t compete in the champion schools competition or class themselves as development schools.

Speaking on the success of the festival, Community development officer Tom Marsh, said: “The emerging schools festivals we have been running and hosting have been a great start to this term. It was great to see 13 schools across Wigan and Chorley getting involved, it just shows what a great job the teachers are doing at the schools delivering PE in curriculum lessons and extracurricular sessions.

“We are also hosting more festivals throughout March with a Year 8 boys festival on the 22nd March and a girls Year 8 and Year 10 festival on the 29th March, both being hosted at Cansfield. I would also like to thank Orrell St James and Cansfield High school for hosting these great events.”
