Adrian Lam was impressed with the growth of his side’s performance in their 25-12 win over Wakefield Trinity on Friday night.

A Jake Bibby hat-trick helped the Cherry and Whites to a solid victory at the DW Stadium, with Liam Marshall and Joe Shorrocks grabbing the other two scores.

Speaking to the media after the full time whistle, the Warriors head coach gave his immediate reaction to the result.

“Our first 60 minutes were as good as we’ve been all year. The last 15 or so I’m not going to take much notice of.

“There was a 20 minute period there in the second half when we were back to who we want to be as a team.

“I’m really proud of what we have done in attack and defence tonight.”

However, Lam was clear that his team could still improve on the overall performance.

Jake Bibby runs in to score Wigan’s third try and complete his hat-trick.

“I felt we could have held them to nil tonight, and let that slip towards the end when we made a few substitutions. Also, we could have scored one or two more (tries) in the first half.”

There was particular praise for Jackson Hastings, who again filled in at full back in the absence of the injured Zak Hardaker and Bevan French and assisted four of the five Wigan tries.

Jackson Hastings celebrates after the game.

“With Jackson in that position, it’s all about getting him more time on the ball.

“He is one of the best halves in the competition. We are just trying to balance out our side and he was silky with his hands tonight.”
