Two Warriors Women in Ireland squad

  • Wigan’s Paige Costello and Aimee Wood selected for Rugby League Ireland Women’s train on squad.
  • John Whalley has named his 20 UK based players to combine with 20 Ireland based players.
  • Trials were hosted at Robin Park Arena last weekend.

Wigan Warriors Women’s Paige Costello and Aimee Wood have been selected in the Rugby League Ireland train on squad for 2021.

Following the introduction of a Women’s Championship in Ireland, Rugby League Ireland have launched their inaugural Women’s squad, which will comprise of 20 UK based players and 20 Ireland based players.

Head coach, John Whalley, hosted his UK trials at Wigan’s Robin Park Arena on Saturday 26th June and has now selected his 20 UK based squad. Included in the 20 are Wigan’s Costello and Wood.

Costello joined Wigan from the Bradford Bulls ahead of the 2020 season, and also previously played for Castleford Tigers. The second rower made her debut off the bench in Wigan’s Betfred Women’s Super League win over Warrington Wolves and has appeared in five of the Warriors’ games this season. 

Half back Aimee Wood joined the Warriors for the current season having been at Widnes Vikings as captain. She also made her debut off the bench against Warrington and has made three appearances this year. Both players recently represented Team GB Teachers with two wins under their belts.
