Local Warrior wins hero award

A young Wigan Warriors fan has been named April’s Dacia Community Hero of the Month for her invaluable contributions both at home and within her local community.

Miss Erica Parkinson won the award – created by Betfred Super League – and will be heading to Newcastle this September for Magic Weekend, courtesy of Dacia.

At just seven-years-old Erica goes above and beyond to take care of others, including her role as a young carer for her sister. This little Warrior also spends her spare time raising money for local charities within the Wigan area, so far raising over a whopping £8,000.

Her heroics don’t stop there – she regularly donates to food banks, animal shelters, and even handed out sweet cones to her neighbours during the pandemic to bring a smile to their faces.

Steve McCormack, head of welfare at Rugby League Cares, selected the winner and said: “To read all the great work that all the nominees have done for their communities highlights some of the amazing people we have supporting our game. All the nominees deserve immense credit for their efforts over the last 12 months.

“Well done Erica and keep making a difference to so many lives. Everybody in our game is extremely proud of all the work you are doing in your community.”

Everyone at Wigan Warriors would like to congratulate Erica on winning the award and thank her for all the amazing work she does for the Wigan community.

Have someone you want to nominate? If so, you and the winner could be joining Erica and her family at this year’s Dacia Magic Weekend. Keep an eye out on the Dacia Community Hero of the Month page for next month’s voting to open.
