770 juniors involved in Easter camps

  • Wigan Warriors Community Foundation’s Easter camps deemed a huge success.
  • 770 juniors aged 5-16 attended the two weeks’ worth of sessions.
  • Foundation visited four amateur clubs and hosted Winter Warrior programme at Robin Park Arena.

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation took their rugby camps on the road during the Easter holidays last month and engaged with 770 of the game’s future stars.

Over the two-week Easter holiday, the Community Foundation delivered rugby sessions to hundreds of juniors aged 5-16-years, both boys and girls.

Week one saw the Foundation visit Leigh Miners Rangers, Ashton Bears, St Judes and Ince Rose Bridge to deliver sessions.

The second week involved the delivery of the Winter Warrior sessions at Robin Park Arena, which were initially postponed earlier in the year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

All the sessions were delivered in line with the RFL return to play guidelines.

Community development officer, Tom Marsh, said: “It was great to get back coaching over the Easter break interacting safely with over 770 participants following the Covid guidelines. It was great to see so many kids enjoying themselves back in the community and we look forward to hosting more camps throughout the rest of 2021.”

Community development officer, Danny Fullerton, added: “I’m delighted with how the two weeks have progressed and created so much positive talk around the town. Rugby League is back, and the Wigan Warriors rugby development team is pulling out all the stops to make sure every child has a fun experience and supports them with the return of the community games. All the sessions were assisted by the Warriors Education Academy students and Wigan Warriors Academy players covering a variety of skills and games it was great to see so many children enjoying themselves.”

Christian Tyrer of Leigh Miners Rangers, said: “We have built up a really good relationship like all clubs with Wigan Warriors over the last few years and look forward to future events and further enhancing this relationship.”
