Injury update

Get the latest on the Wigan Warriors squad ahead of Thursday’s game against Leeds Rhinos with the Assured Testing Injury Update.

Adrian Lam’s men will head to Emerald Headingley Stadium on Thursday with the aim of continuing their unbeaten start to the 2021 season.

Ahead of the Betfred Super League clash, here’s the latest on the fitness of the first team squad.

Team news

Speaking to the press on Monday, Lam outlined the likelihood of Bevan French’s inclusion this Thursday. The Australian hasn’t featured for the Cherry and Whites in 2021 so far.

“He will be part of the squad this week no doubt. He’s better off than he was a couple of weeks ago. We will give him the rest of the week to see if he is good to play at the back end of the week.

“We are taking a precautionary route with him because you’re seeing so many soft tissue injuries at the moment, so we’ve got to make sure he’s ok and ready to go.”

The head coach also provided an update on the progress of winger Dom Manfredi, who has so far missed the start of the season with a broken thumb.

“Dom gets his hand out of his cast in two days time. His physical side is bang on as he’s been able to do everything else [in training]. He won’t be far away.”

He also highlighted the progress of centre Oliver Gildart, who has missed the start of the season with a groin issue.

“Gildart is different [to Manfredi] because he’s been behind on the running and the workload because of the injury.”

The Papua New Guinean also discussed the progress of winger Liam Marshall, who remains sidelined following a ACL knee injury sustained in September 2020.

Marshall has been unavailable since early September 2020.

“He’s still five or six weeks away, and there’s often hiccups with ACL injuries, it’s not usually a smooth run for them.

“He’s been going good, but he’s got to keep working hard. He’s not got complete flexion back in the knee, so that will take a little while. But, the sooner we can have Liam back the better.”
